Usman Khawaja will make his much anticipated Test debut against England in the 5th Ashes Test using the new revolutionary E41 cricket bat pioneered by Australian bat manufacturer GRAY-NICOLLS.
The new E41 boasts the largest ever profile ever made with edges reaching a staggering 41mm at their highest point. GRAY-NICOLLS has been able to take bat making to a new level by developing a completely new manufacturing technique to enable maximum edge and profile thickness. This new profile, with it's light pick up, will allow players to have the perfect balance between extreme power and control.
The revolutionary cricket bat conforms to the Laws of Cricket (Law 6) as set by the rule makers Marylebone Cricket Club.
Usman, a self confessed bat nerd, chose GRAY-NICOLLS at a crucial time in his career as he consolidated his high State average and worked to earn a spot in the Australian cricket side.
"I've always been fascinated by the role my bat plays in scoring runs. Having a local bat maker has allowed my bat specifications to change as my game matures".
GRAY-NICOLLS, one of Australia's great sporting brands, is the only significant bat maker left in Australia and has proudly served the cricket community with their distinctive hand-made English willow since 1876.

Usman's experience with the Australia A team vs England:
It always starts the same. Pack your clothes, make sure you pack your creams (or in the case for England your whites) and head to the airport for the away game. This time it was at cold, old Hobart and we had 3 days preparation Sunday to Tuesday before the first ball was to be bowled in anger on Wednesday.
The first day is usually casual and breezy. You meet up with all the team and settle into your apartment and find out who your roommate is. In my case it was Fergie (Callum Ferguson) who I hadn’t met before. If I had met him years earlier I’d be a candidate for The Biggest Loser. He is a very bad influence on my sweet tooth. He and I are both use Gray-Nic’s so we spent some time comparing bats.
Monday is when the business starts with a training session. A fielding session followed by the nets is usually the course of events. Fielding as a team is usually very high intensity to replicate the match. This involves short, medium and long range catching and throwing. We take a fair bit of time getting our shoulders loose in the beginning.
After a team fielding session begins the netting. My routine is usually always the same. Hit against the net bowlers (some local Tasmanian lads, quite fast) then have a hit on the bowling machine or have throw downs – my goal is to tick all the boxes of stroke play and make sure my feet are moving well and that I’m in a good space (mentally). I rotate through all my Gray-Nic bats to make sure they are knocked in and ready to go just in case any of them are needed in a game. A roll of the arm of my Harbijan-like spinners ends each session just in case we are fielding at 4-440 and the captain needs my expertise.
The rest of the players routines aren’t much different to mine. Steven Smith goes in there and plays every single shot in the book and some that never made the first draft! Hughsey (Philip Hughes) is clinical and gets in and out without much fooling around. My mate Fergie looks technical (in a relaxed state of mind likely thinking about the Cold Rock ice cream he will devour with his roommate later on). And lastly the bowlers do their thing. Depending on how much they have bowled in the past week is a main factor in how much they bowl during training before games. This is where you hear that word ‘workloads’. It’s a measure of the time they spend bowling multiplied by their perceived exertion (ranging from 1-10, where 10 is maximum).
I finish the training with a burst of catching practice. Sometimes it’s just someone hitting balls hard at me and other times it’s slip cordon ‘nicks’. As they say, you can never catch too much!
Training then moves quickly to recovery. Recovery!? That’s hardly the word for it. Don’t get me wrong, I love a stretch and massage, but before that must come the ice bath. Apparently the eskimos in the late 18th century discovery that after exertion your body temperature rises and the body has to work hard to regulate it at that 36 degree mark. So getting in freezing water aids bringing it back down to optimal levels and quickens the healing process. My argument was that we were in Tasmania where it was 8 degrees so keeping my body temp down was not an issue...that didn’t fly with the trainers.
Anyways that is a regulation training session for a team before a big game. We repeated that routine the next day (and yes, the trainer ignored my pleas for clemency on the ice baths). The rest as they say is history. Go the Aussies in the Ashes, Uzzie.

A stylish 101 not out for GRAY-NICOLLS sponsored player Callum Ferguson (Ignite) helped South Australia to an upset win over Tasmania.
Ferguson combined with fellow GRAY-NICOLLS sponsored player Tom Cooper (Ignite) for a fourth wicket 122-run partnership.
Having defeated the Tigers in a remarkable Sheffield Shield game on Monday, Ferguson said the Redbacks season was now underway after a poor start.
"You're never out of it this early in the season," he said. "We've got plenty of games to come, if we keep playing this brand of cricket, then there's no stopping us."
Ferguson and Cooper's excellent partnership put the visitors in a winning position, even when Cooper was caught in the deep for 52.
This continues Ferguson's great form since returning this year from a serious knee injury and he now has centuries in both the long and short form of the game this season.
Wed 10 November 2010
Jesse Ryder announced his return to the test cricket arena after a 15 month injury enforced absence with this third century in just his 12th test against India in the first test.
Ryder raised three figures in the last over of the day by dispatching Shantakumaran Sreesanth to the cover boundary before being trapped leg before wicket two balls later.
Ryder has restructured his team's cause, with the help of debutant and fellow GRAY-NICOLLS sponsored player Kane Williamson, to establish a New Zealand record fifth wicket stand against India of 194 runs.
Ryder and Williamson joined forces shortly before lunch after the loss of two quick wickets with the tourists at a shaky 137 for four chasing India's first innings of 487.
They then defied the Indians for 281 minutes to guide their team to a fighting 331 for five.
Opening batsman Brendon McCullum, who earlier made 65, said it was a pleasure to sit in the team dressing room and watch on as Ryder and Williamson took it to the world no. 1 Indians for the rest of the day.
"It was brilliant. I was obviously disappointed to get out but I sat back in awe how two guys in contrasting situations in their careers responded." McCullum said.
"They are both guys who genuinely love batting and genuinely love scoring runs."
Ryder has now passed 1,000 runs at test level at an average of 52.68.
Jesse Ryder uses Powerbow equipment and Kane Williamson uses Ignite.
Wed 10 November 2010
Kane Williamson put himself in the record books by scoring a test cricket century on debut for New Zealand against India in their recent first test.
At just 20 years old, Kane became the first New Zealander to achieve the feat.
Williamson shared a New Zealand fifth wicket record partnership of 194 with GRAY-NICOLLS sponsored player Jesse Ryder, who also managed to compile a masterful 103.
Williamson portrayed no signs of nerves as he quickly moved into and through the 90's.
He hooked a short ball from Zaheer to fine leg to move to 97 and, despite a leg slip being put in place, two balls later he flicked the bowler off his hip in the same direction to reach the milestone.
Williamson's century occupied 309 minutes and 244 balls. He went on to hit 131 off 299 balls and was dismissed just before lunch on day four.
Kane Williamson uses Ignite equipment and Jesse Ryder uses Powerbow.
Mon 1 November 2010
Shaun Marsh struck his sixth first-class century for the Retravision Warriors but his team faces a challenging final day in the Weet-Bix Sheffield Shield match against the West End Redbacks in Adelaide.
Marsh played a lone hand in the WA innings, scoring a brilliant 137. Michael Swart (51) and Adam Voges (35) were the only other batsmen to notch up more than 20 on a tough day with the willow for the Warriors.
Callum Ferguson crafted a swift century as South Australia finished the second day at 7 for 405 against Western Australia. After only 4.1 overs were allowed on the first day, Ferguson showed he was back in excellent nick in his opening first-class game since knee surgery last year to finish with 129.
Aiden Blizzard also played a significant part as he brought up his debut hundred in his second Sheffield Shield match for South Australia. After making 96 in his first game, he backed up with 108 not out, hitting 12 fours and three sixes. In a stellar performance Blizzard finished on 141 not out.
Fri 15 October 2010
In exciting news for GRAY-NICOLLS overnight, New Zealand young gun Kane Williamson scored his debut ODI century against Bangladesh. Using IGNITE gear, Kane made 108 from 132 balls out of the New Zealand total of 232.
In only his second series, this is an outstanding achievement for Kane and extremely exciting for GRAY-NICOLLS. Please see the link below for further details.

Wed 13 October 2010
Andrew McDonald was in stunning form as he blazed 163 from 116 balls for the Bushrangers opening Sheffield Shield clash against Western Australia in Perth.
McDonald made history as the first Victorian to make a century before lunch in a Sheffield Shield match and also recorded his seventh first class century.
Starting the day off on 9* McDonald piled on the runs like he was playing a Twenty20 match - his innings included 21 fours and seven sixes over 128 minutes.
NSW opening batsman Nic Maddinson has achieved a memorable feat by becoming the youngest every player for New South Wales to score a century on his First Class debut. Maddinson scored 113 versus South Australia at Adelaide Oval aged 18 years and 294 days.
The previous record was held by the legendary Arthur Morris who scored 148 v QLD at the SCG on the 26th December 1940, aged 18 years and 342 days.
Maddinson also becomes the fourth youngest player to score a First Class century for NSW with only Archie Jackson, Ian Craig and Doug Walters being younger.
A stunning double century from Usman Khawaja guided NSW Blues to 5-479 at lunch on day two of their Sheffield Shield clash against South Australia at Adelaide Oval.
Khawaja smashed 214 including 32 fours and posted his highest first class score in the process before he was dismissed by Aaron O'Brien.
Andrew McDonald, Nic Maddinson and Usman Khawaja all use cricket bats from our Ignite range.

Coming Soon: Nano Carbon Tube Technology
It is well known that in many international hockey matches, there's a small margin of difference between winning and losing.
For 2010 the introduction of Carbon Nano Tube Technology is the latest development in improving Grays composite hockey sticks. Although small in size, these minute sized Carbon Nano Tubes play an important part in taking our hockey stick construction technology to a new level and give top players that extra percent that can swing hte game in your favour. They recognise it is the small things that make all the difference.
Grays inspiration for our nano range has come from our desire to:
By introducing these new hi-tech Carbon Nano Technologies, Grays are now able to introduce and offer players the latest cutting edge technology.
Player Benefits:
Nano Carbon Tubes are molecular scale graphitic tubes that are amongst the strongest of known fibres. We have now included "Carbon Nano Tubes" as part of our resin mixture formulae. This process has involved carefully adding these nano molecule particles into the resin mix as part of the all important lay up process. The Grays formulae is so important in creating the all important stick performance qualities of increased strength and feel.
When integrated within the formulae mix of the resin, these minute sized Carbon Nano Tubes allow greater impregnation of the resin into the surface of the reinforcing fibres themselves, resulting in greater tensile strength in the bond of the resin itself on the surface of the reinforcing fibres.
It is the combination and integration of the use of these Carbon Nano Tubes within the resin mix combined with our Grays special composite fibre matrix constructions on these Nano models that increases the unidirectional qualities of the sticks performance.

CRICKETERS IN SUPPORT FOR OCTOBER BREAST CANCER MONTH
MEDIA RELEASE
5 Oct. 09
Boxing Day, December 2006: Matthew Hayden salutes a packed MCG crowd upon reaching his century against England with a fluorescent pink bat handle. This act kick-started an unprecedented following and support for breast cancer awareness from cricketers nation-wide.
With October internationally recognised as Breast Cancer Month and nearly three years on, GRAY-NICOLLS is pleased to announce that all of its sponsored Australian international and state-representative cricketers will don the pink grip once again for this month only, including tonight's Champions Trophy Final between Australia and New Zealand.
October also includes the prestigious Champions League Twenty20 tournament from India and the start to the Australian domestic cricket season.
This initiative will see over 45 cricketers support the cause, including the following high profile cricketers -
Callum Ferguson
Cameron White
David Hussey
Nathan Hauritz
David Warner
Moises Henriques
Andrew McDonald
Andrew Symonds
Over 100,000 GRAY-NICOLLS pink grips have been sold throughout Australia and New Zealand since December 2006. GRAY-NICOLLS is continuing its commitment to donate $1 per pink grip sold to the National Breast Cancer Foundation and New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation.
This support is inconsequential compared to the horrifying statistics that this disease causes Australian families. Each year in Australia more than 13,600 women and 105 men are diagnosed with breast cancer; more than 2,800 will die from it.
Ends.

The five-Test series starts with the first Test in Cardiff from July 8 and finishes with the fifth Test at The Oval in late August.

Fri 8 May 2009
Explosive GRAY-NICOLLS batsman David Warner and all-rounder's David Hussey and Andrew Symonds have been named in the Twenty20 World Cup team to compete in England this June.
According to cricketing experts, the return of Andrew Symonds has boosted the Australian teams experience and enthusiasm particularly in a squad that included several players relatively new to international cricket. It is well-known that Andrew Symonds is one of the best T20 players in the world and recently proved to selectors in the UAE that he still has the ability to win matches for Australia.
Twenty20 sensation David Warner (NSW) has also been selected for his consistent performances in the shortest version of the game. Warner is currently playing for Delhi Daredevils in the Indian Premier League (IPL) in South Africa.
All-rounder David Hussey admits he is excited and relieved to have been named in Australia's Twenty20 World Cup squad. According to Chairman of selectors Andrew Hilditch, David Hussey is an important part of the team and earned his sport after displaying sharp fielding in the first international T20 against South Africa recently.
Squad: Ricky Ponting (captain), Michael Clarke (vice-captain), Nathan Bracken, Brad Haddin, Nathan Hauritz, Ben Hilfenhaus, James Hopes, David Hussey, Mike Hussey, Mitchell Johnson, Brett Lee, Peter Siddle, Andrew Symonds, David Warner and Shane Watson.

The 2009 National Kookaburras line-up has been confirmed, with Kookaburras coach Ric Charlesworth announcing his 24 man squad, which includes seven Grays sponsored athletes.
Signalling the beginning of a new and exciting ear Charlsworth has selected seven players all who have played less than ten international games each in the last twelve months. Three of these new talents include Grays sponsored athlete Chris Ciriello, Mark Paterson, and Glen Simpson.
While the inclusion of the new players brings a fresh look to the Kookaburras, who won Bronze at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, Charlsworth has indicated the squad will continue to evolve in the short term and their main focus will be on exposing as many players as possible to the national team.
In addition to the new talents mentioned above, Grays is also delighted to announce the inclusion of previous squad members Mark Knowles, Eddie Ockenden, Grant Schurbert and Russell Ford.
As the first major international tournament since the Beijing Olympics, the Champions Trophy in Melbourne from November 28-December 6 will be the first opportunity from the Kookaburras to demonstrate the strength and depth of Australia's hockey talents.

GRAY-NICOLLS cricketers Andrew Symonds (IGNITE), Shaun Marsh (NITRO) and David Hussey (NITRO) have all been named in Australia's 14-man squad for the limited overs series against Pakistan in the United Arab Emirates starting on April 22.
Symonds and Marsh both return following a tumultuous summer that included Symonds undergoing knee surgery and Marsh resting a torn hamstring.
Symonds said he was grateful for the chance to play for Australia again. "That's not something I've ever taken for granted so it's going to be pretty rewarding to be a part of the side considering I've worked hard to get back,"
Chairman of selectors Andrew Hilditch said that it was up to the Queenslander to "seize this opportunity" during the series that includes five one-day matches and one Twenty20 fixture.
Australia’s 14-man squad:
Michael Clarke (captain), Brad Haddin (vice-captain), Nathan Bracken, Callum Ferguson, Brett Geeves, Nathan Hauritz, Ben Hilfenhaus, James Hopes, David Hussey, Ben Laughlin, Brett Lee, Shaun Marsh, Andrew Symonds, Shane Watson
Mon 6 April 2009
Andrew Symonds' exile from the national team is over after he was named as part of the preliminary squad for the World Twenty20 in England in June. “I’m grateful that I’ve got the chance to get back to playing for Australia again,” Symonds said.
Cricket Australia told the selectors Symonds had shown enough in his rehabilitation programme to be considered solely on fitness and form. Furthermore, his selection in the squad increases his chances of being involved in the limited-overs matches against Pakistan starting later this month.
Symonds who uses the IGNITE range (New 2009) will be in South Africa next week to prepare for the IPL with the Deccan Chargers and may even be back in Australian colours by the end of the month if some of the senior players take a break for the Pakistan engagements in the UAE.
GRAY-NICOLLS would also like to extend its congratulations to its following cricketers who have also been named in the Twenty20 squad.

Andrew Symonds' exile from the national team is over after he was named in the Australian side to take on an All-Stars XI in a Twenty20 match in Brisbane on Friday. Symonds will also be back in the frame for the upcoming home Test series against New Zealand having completed the welfare process prescribed for him. The Australian Test Squad to compete against New Zealand is expected to be announced within the next week.
This opportunity will mean that Andrew Symonds will unleash the Predator Max cricket bat for the first time. Symonds will continue to use the Viper in the Test and ODI formats.
It is also pleasing to see Matthew Hayden return to limited overs cricket, joining Shaun Marsh for the first time at the top-of-the-order. Cameron White continues to hold his spot in the Australian team for all forms of the game.

Ana was understandably delighted after a near flawless display of controlled power tennis earned her a 6-2, 6-1 win over world No.9 Vera Zvonareva, and with it the Generali Ladies Linz title.
"Every final is a new experience and winning a title is always special," she said. "Especially after coming back from an injury, and putting in a lot of hard work; it is great to see the results. It's a very good feeling to win another title and I am very happy about it.
"I've played better and better with every match and I just enjoyed it again, to compete and win. I've had a couple of good matches here: Pennetta in the quarter-finals was a really good match, and yesterday against Radwanska was very emotional and tough, with lots of ups and downs. But both matches gave me a lot of confidence. Today I played almost a perfect match."
"The score might look like the match was easier than it actually was. We were still fighting for every point and in the first set there was one situation where the match could have gone either way. It makes a big difference if it is 3-2 or 4-1."
Zvonareva lamented her poor performance. "Of course I am really disappointed with how I played today," she said. "She played well and I was just not in the match today."
Ana also enjoyed her time in Austria off the court. "I enjoyed my week in Linz," she said. "When I had a day off earlier this week I went for a walk in the city, went to the cinema and had a nice dinner by the river."
Having well and truly put her injury troubles behind her, Ana is now well placed to make an assault on the Sony Ericsson Championships in Qatar, which begins a week on Tuesday. "I'm going to Doha hungry to win more matches," said Ana.
"But the top eight players will be there and they all want to win the Championships, so it will be tough. But I'm looking forward to Doha. I will also celebrate my birthday there, and I will just go there to enjoy competing."

Amid all the arrivals, the Australian team is preparing to head into camp on Saturday.
After having had to replace both Michael Crocker and Justin Hodges before even gathering as a team, it's somehow appropriate that their first activity will involve a rescue party.
The Australians are joining 'nippers' at Coogee Beach in surf-lifesaving drills on Sunday morning.
Nippers are junior life-savers from five years of age to under 14's and the day is a chance for the defending World Cup Champions to ease their way back into full-time training.
Coach Ricky Stuart knows that things will hot up quickly soon after with the pressure building on a team overloaded with public expectation.
The opening Ceremony at the Sydney Football Stadium on October 26 will be the first real test for the Australians when they face the Kiwis.
The day will include a curtain-raiser between an Australian Indigenous team and the New Zealand Maoris as well as an official opening ceremony featuring Natalie Bassingthwaighte.
More than 125 countries have signed up to take telecasts of RLWC08 World Cup matches and Ricky Stuart will be determined to impress from the start.
The nature of the Super Pool format, with Australia, New Zealand, England and PNG in the one pool, is such that any slip up can spell disaster in terms of making the semi-finals.
Stuart knows only too well that New Zealand will go into the match thirsting for revenge after their disappointment in this year's Centenary Test.

Shaun Marsh has broken into the international ODI scene with a Man of the Match performance of 81 runs (97 balls) against the West Indies overnight, which included seven 4's and one 6. Not only did Marsh win match honours he notched up the second-highest score by an Australian on debut in a one-day international. He fell 13 short of the highest debut ODI score by an Australian, set by another potential one-day opener, Phil Jaques. Both Marsh and Jaques are using the GRAY-NICOLLS NITRO range.
The Australian cricket team also used GRAY-NICOLLS pink batting grips to recognise the recent passing of Jane McGrath.
When Matthew Hayden makes his return to Test and ODI cricket it is likely that GRAY-NICOLLS will have the two opening batsmen for both forms, as well as the very marketable Andrew Symonds in the middle order and a promising Twenty20 opening batsman / wicket-keeper Luke Ronchi, who scored the most runs in the recent Twenty20 against the West Indies.
Matthew Hayden - FUSION 2
Andrew Symonds - VIPER (ODI and Tests), PREDATOR MAX (T20)
Shaun Marsh - NITRO
Phil Jaques - NITRO
Luke Ronchi - LEGEND wicket keeping gloves, NITRO wicket keeping pads and a PREDATOR MAX bat

The Australian Rugby Union has announced a new agreement with GILBERT to be the Official Match Ball for the next five years, commencing 1 January 2008. This will see GILBERT balls used in all games under the control of the ARU and worldwide exclusivity on Wallabies-branded licensed and replica balls.
The GILBERT ‘SYNERGIE' ball, soon to be used by the Wallabies, is the flagship of the GILBERT range and is being used in the IRB Rugby World Cup 2007 France, as well as being the Official Ball of most nations in world rugby.
Richard Gray Sales and Marketing Director for GILBERT International said: "We are extremely pleased that the Wallabies have chosen the GILBERT ball. As one of the leading teams in world rugby it is only right that they should be using the players' first choice of ball. It is all the more pleasing that the ARU have decided to return to the GILBERT brand and this is a real tribute to the progress made by GILBERT in Australia."
Scott Bradford Football Brand Manager Australia said: "To secure the Wallabies for a five-year deal provides the security and ability to build long-term sales and marketing strategies.
"We look forward to working closely with the Wallabies players and management over the coming months and years. The two organisations are a perfect fit as both are iconic brands with passion and true heritage."
A new GILBERT Wallabies ball range will be available in-store from February 2008, which will cater for the elite and junior players, fans, and children. The GILBERT sales team will soon present the Wallaby range to retailers and take orders for February 2008 and beyond.
GILBERT would like to thank its valued customers for their ongoing support and we look forward to sharing with them the many exciting years to come.

Since GRAY-NICOLLS and the National Breast Cancer Foundation joined forces in November 2006, Gray-Nicolls has raised over $25,000 for the foundation.
The campaign began in November 2006 with Matthew Hayden and Andrew Symonds promoting the cause with fluorescent pink grips on their bats. For every run Hayden scored and every boundary Symonds hit over the 06/07 Ashes series, Gray-Nicolls donated $20 and $100 respectively to the NBCF.
As a result of such a successful campaign, New Zealand cricketers, Lou Vincent, Jacob Oram and Daniel Vettori also joined the fight against breast cancer.
The campaign will continue over the 07/08 summer season to raise even more money for both the National Breast Cancer Foundation and The New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation (NZBCF).
Not only can GRAY-NICOLLS and its cricketers support these foundations, you can too. Gray-Nicolls Mini Bats and Fluorescent pink grips are being sold in retailers. For every one purchased, Gray-Nicolls will donate $1 to the NBCF in Australia and the NZBCF in New Zealand. Each year 2,600 women in Australia and 622 women in New Zealand die from breast cancer, making it the most common cause of cancer-related death in Australian and New Zealand women. Together we can make a difference through a sport we love.
